- Can MRI Differentiate between Infectious and Immune-Related Acute Cerebellitis? A Retrospective Imaging Study
Acute cerebellitis is a rare condition, and MR imaging is helpful in the differential diagnosis. T2-FLAIR hyperintense signal in the brainstem and supratentorial brain may be indicative of immune-related acute cerebellitis, and downward herniation may be indicative of infectious acute cerebellitis.
- Prenatal Evaluation of Intracranial Hemorrhage on Fetal MRI: A Retrospective Review
The EPI blood sequence is the most sensitive in the identification of fetal intracranial hemorrhage, which, in conjunction with T2-SSFSE images, can optimize classification and subsequent grading of germinal matrix hemorrhages in the fetus. The authors report a significant increase in neonatal death in the non-GMH-versus-GMH group and worsened brain parenchymal findings in more severe GMH grades (III-IV) on postnatal MR imaging.
- MRI Patterns in Pediatric CNS Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis
Distinct MR imaging patterns correlating with clinical phenotypes and possible genetic underpinnings were recognized in this cohort of pediatric patients with CNS hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis. Disruptive mutations and missense mutations with absent protein expression correlate with a younger onset age. Children with brainstem and cerebellitis patterns and a negative etiologic work-up require directed assessment for CNS hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis.
- A Uniform Description of Perioperative Brain MRI Findings in Infants with Severe Congenital Heart Disease: Results of a European Collaboration
A broad spectrum of perioperative brain MR imaging findings was documented in infants with congenital heart disease. The authors propose an MR imaging protocol including T1-, T2-, diffusion- and susceptibility-weighted imaging, and MRV to identify ischemic, hemorrhagic, and thrombotic lesions observed in this patient group.
